Part 1: MEDIEVAL MANUSCRIPT ILLUMINATION  - Saturday -  MondayJuly 16-18, 2016,

Join artist Tony Silvestri for an illumination workshop. Participants will study the traditional materials and techniques of medieval manuscript illuminators, and use calfskin, hand-made gesso, 23K gold leaf, and pure pigments to create a beautiful illumination of their own. During this three-day workshop, we will also be able to participate in the traditional monastic schedule

Part 2: OPEN RETREAT - Tuesday, July 19, 2016
Enjoy a quiet day of contemplation and prayer at the Abbey, with guided meditation with Father Jay Kythe, OSB

Part 3: ICONOGRAPHY Workshop and Retreat - 
Wednesday - Sunday, July 20-24, 2016

Artist Elizabeth Zeller leads this workshop in the traditional art of icon painting. Participants will explore each step in the process--from the preparation of the icon board to the finishing touches--to create an icon of their own from start to finish, using traditional materials and techniques, such as gilding and egg-tempera painting. During this five-day workshop, we will also be able to participate in the traditional monastic schedule.
