The St. Benedict Chair in Liturgy was established on May 26, 2015 by the monks of St. Benedict's Abbey at the first Liturgy Week Architecture for Liturgy.
Father Daniel McCarthy has been named the first chair holder. This will enable him to continue teaching liturgy at the Master’s level at the Liturgy Institute, London, and to continue writing on liturgy, the Latin language and church architecture. He has authored over 270 articles and co-authored or edited three books, with other books in press. Some of Fr. Daniel's work is available in our shop.
Father Daniel has been appointed to teach Liturgy at the Pontifical Institute of Liturgy located at the Benedictine house of studies in Rome. He will begin teaching in February 2016. During his initial course students will consider the Latin expression and theological content of the opening prayers of Mass of the Lent and Easter seasons. His master’s and doctoral level students will come from all over the world, many of whom will become instructors in their local seminaries.
You are invited to invest with the Abbey and Father Daniel by your donation to the St. Benedict Chair in Liturgy to establish a lasting endowment, whose funds will support teaching, research and publishing as well as liturgical conversations and promoting good liturgy. As such, the chair expresses the mission of St. Benedict’s Abbey to support prayer and scholarship. The Abbey is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Your donation may be tax deductible in the United States.
