Students, families, and monks were among the over 200 runners and walkers to participate in the 5th annual MonkRun on Saturday, September 22nd. A cool breeze and clear skies ushered in a beautiful morning and made for perfect race conditions. The route included a mile for walkers and a 5k for runners, both looping around the Abbey and the Benedictine College Campus.
As in years past, the race was a family event. Many families ran or walked together and had time together to visit and talk before and after the race. Hot coffee was provided by the Roasterie before the race and there was also a great opportunity afterwards to mingle and enjoy fellowship with the monks.
This years motto, “Run for a Monk”, referenced the One Legacy • One Future fund. All proceeds from the race help provide for health care and retirement needs of the older monks and the education and formation of the newest monks. Winner of the women’s 5k division, Lizze DeWisperlare, said that the event was a “really good experience and knowing that it helps the monks makes it even better”.
Thank you to everyone who participated! See below to watch a recap of the day.
